Supporting the participation and investment in women’s sport, creating a national home for netball and hockey.

Background

The upgraded facility will cater for international elite athletes and local competition, whilst also being a hub for athlete development with a high-performance centre. The facility will include new indoor aquatic facilities, major sport programs, sector education programs, and sports administration.


The facilities will also include:

  • 6 new indoor netball / basketball courts,
  • a new indoor hockey pitch
  • a new synthetic turf hockey pitch  
  • a high-performance strength and conditioning gym, and
  • refurbishment of existing corporate areas.

Johnstaff's role

Johnstaff was engaged by Development Victoria, on behalf of the State Sports Centre Trust to fulfill Project Management, Superintendent and Stakeholder coordination services for the $64.6m redevelopment of the State Netball and Hockey Centre (SNHC).  

Johnstaff tailored its services to align with the requirements of Development Victoria.  Facilitating engagement of several specialist consultants, developing systems to ensure quality assurance is maintained and through our unique programme statusing have ensured the client has mitigated several time and costly latent conditions claims.

Addressing the issues

The keys issues included the staged handover of new front entry and office administration, whilst maintain facility operations.  

There has been a requirement to manage third parties associated with complex security and ticketing systems and integrating with turnstiles.

Finally, the QA requirements and defect management of a number of highly specialised sports features, including timber floors, lighting towers and aquatic zones has required careful attention.

Outcomes

Facilitated successful resolution of complex latent conditions and extension of time contractual claims associated with contaminated soil and statutory building regulation upgrades
The redevelopment will establish the Women in Sport Leadership Centre, which will kick-start initiatives to drive cultural change and grow female leadership in sport
Comprehensive consultation with multiple project stakeholders including Sports Recreation Victoria, Melbourne City Council, State Sports Centre Trust and Development Victoria
